Remember when I snapped up tons of goodness from my
One of the things I grabbed was this base to an old windmill.
I brought it in because we had big plans for this.
It still has the price tag on it...$12.
You can see my plans, can't you?
It's perfect for making a vintage industrial floor lamp.
So, we ran down to Home Depot and bought a $10 lamp kit.
If you've never done this before,
the directions are on the back of the kit
and it is EASY!
I've re-wired lamps before so
my husband decided to try this one
and it took him about 5 minutes...okay, maybe 6.
We grabbed a natural creamy white square lamp shade
and there you have it!
For less than $25, we have a one of a kind
vintage industrial floor lamp.
What do you think?
I love it all rusty and a little bent in places.
It would be just as cool with a fresh coat of white paint too.
I'm leaving it like this for now.
I like the contrast against my white beadboard.
Looks great. I can always find things to make table lamps from, but a floor lamp is a real score.
ReplyDeleteFabulous great job and what a score at 12 dollars

I love it and I would absolutely leave it rusty! I made a floor lamp from a telescope tripod myself!
ReplyDeleteGreat work!
Susan @ homeroad.net
It's great...perfect finish too!
ReplyDeleteI love it! The rust is so cool, and I love the shape.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderfully creative idea! I have one of these in my yard, missing the blades also, I think I may make one too.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love it! I'm kicking myself now, though. I forgot to get a coat rack with similar shape this afternoon at an estate sale. Could'a done the same thing. Dang!
ReplyDeleteLove the lamp. Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! Another example of your authentic style! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat vision to see it as a lamp and love the rust and shade too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic one-of-a-kind lamp. If I were to paint it, I don't think I would go with white - I could envision an oil-rubbed bronze instead or even a tarnished silver look. i like it the way it is too though.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THAT LAMP! What a great idea. I need to bring you over to my garage and let you give me ideas on all the junk I have...I would be rich! Great stuff.
ReplyDeleteDenis
Pretty dang amazing if I say so myself. You did a great job. Perfect!
ReplyDeleteSo awesome - love it!
ReplyDeleteWow! I want that lamp!
ReplyDeleteWhat can I say....it's perfect!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great piece! I love the rustic bottom with the clean new shade. Well done!
ReplyDeleteHave a Happy Thanksgiving.

Pottery Barn is scouring the countryside for windmill bases after seeing this lamp but their version will be $499. Great job, wonderfully inspired. Jo @ Let's Face the Music
ReplyDeleteAwesome idea. I like the extreme rustiness to it, so I don't think I would paint it myself.
ReplyDeleteGina, I love it! That's the coolest lamp ever. I just put a tripod lamp together and need to get a plug for it. Until I read this I had no idea the parts were so cheap; wouldn't you know it, I spent hours rifling through my stash to come up with parts that would work for mine. Now I know I should have just bought them! oh well, next time.
ReplyDeletePS I love the rusty look too, no paint necessary!
Ok, you and Suzanne now have me wanting one of these tripod lamps!!! It looks great with lots of rusty goodness!
ReplyDeleteAwesome light! Great job!

You've convinced me! I shall make my first lamp! Home Depot huh?
ReplyDeleteLOVE this, girl! Rust and all. :)
