Seriously?

My 13 year old son went to his first major league baseball game last night (he's not much into sports or we would have taken him sooner.)

He and his Dad went to see our Texas Rangers take on the Yankees. They had box seats at the Ballpark In Arlington.  It was a memorable night.  The Rangers won in extra innings and....

...my son got hit with a foul ball off the bat of A-Rod.  He got hit in the shoulder after the ball skimmed the seat in front of him so thankfully he wasn't injured.  Did he get to keep the ball you ask?  Nope.  While my husband and surrounding nice fans and a stadium official checked to see that my son was okay, the guy sitting behind them scooped up the ball and kept it.  Everyone saw him get the ball and keep it instead of giving it to a kid who got hit with it.  Seriously.

  2. Karma baby. It will come back to him. Bummer that a grown man can be such a baby. Glad your son was okay and hopefully he had a great time :)

  4. I'm so sorry for your son, not only that he didn't get the ball, but that he had to witness an adult acting like a brat.

  8. Oh my goodness! Shame on that man!! The rudeness of people just amazes me! Good to hear your son was not hurt, and at least he has a great story to tell his friends...wow, getting hit from an A-rod ball! ( I am Australian, but even I know who he is!!) Awesome for your son:)~ Tina xx

  9. Do you remember a year or two ago there was all this news about some schmuck who knocked over a TODDLER to get to a ball?

He ended up on the big screen, everyone saw what happened, and he just sat there. Unwilling to admit that he'd been a dork and just hand over the ball to the kid. (I mean, it's a doofus thing to do, but if he'd just admit he got carried away in the moment and given the little boy the ball, everyone would have forgiven him).

The team (I don't remember who now) ended up tracking the family down and giving them a team ball and some tickets to game.

Your poor son. I'm glad he's okay, and hope he enjoyed the game anyway.
