I completed the second little project for my new sunroom makeover (the first was doing the floors I guess). If you missed the before of my sunroom, you can see it here and then here. I purchased a new toy this weekend which influenced the project I chose to do first. I bought a new electric stapler! I was so sick of the manual one and all of it's problems so I bought a power stapler. (It's awesome)
So my first little project is to recover my bench that will be the primary seating in the sunroom. I purchased this many years ago. It was an iron bed in it's former life until some creative person took the footboard, cut it in half and attached it to the sides to create a seating bench. It's about the size of a loveseat so it's perfect for the sunroom.
Here is the ugly fabric that was on it. I loved that fabric about 9 years ago but now, not so much.
I have decided to recover it with dropcloth material. I want a neutral backdrop. I purchased my $10 dropcloth and washed/dried it to soften it up a bit. Here it is fresh from the dryer. I cut the size of material I would need.
As you can see, I am recovering over the old layers of material. I do that because it gives the seat some extra cushion...and because I'm lazy and don't want to remove the old material.
There it is...my new staple gun. Again, it's awesome.
I put these two pillows on it just for the picture. My plan is to add a lot of pillows to this for color, interest and comfort.
All done. I like it. One project down, at least 5 or 6 more to go until the sunroom becomes my new project room.
I may link this up to some of my favorite link parties listed above on my page or below on the right.
very nice. I like the neutral back drop. I am looking forward to seeing it finished.

ReplyDeleteI love that, Gina! Can't wait to see all yer pillas. Will you post s'more pics of your flooring now that it's all dry, purty please?
ReplyDeleteI bet it will look fabulous with a ton of pillows on it!!
ReplyDeleteThe bench is so cute. I've seen them made out of wood headboards but never metal. I love it with it's new cushion.
ReplyDeleteThat is a really cute little bench. I like the new neutral cushion on it. You have me wondering what the rest of the sunroom will look like!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up!
Oh, I've been waiting on pins and needles to see what you put in your new room first! This is so sweet, I love it. I am envisioning lots of pillows like you said, it'll be beautiful! I love that drop cloth material and it's so cheap too! I used a huge one to make an outdoor curtain on my patio.

Great bench. I love your drop cloth covering.
ReplyDeleteWhen you're completely done with this project, it should fantastic. I've never seen a metal bench like this before- only wooden ones fashioned from a headboard and footboard. This is too cute- kinda like a mini daybed. Loading it up with tons of pillows will definitely make it comfy and attractive. Hope to see the finished product soon.

ReplyDeleteOh my how I love this! I never would have thought to make a bench from a head and foot board, especially the creative way you have done it. I'm with you. I like the second go-round with this project. Very nice. And yes, more pillows - you can never have enough. Love it!
ReplyDeleteThis is the second time I've seen dropcloth used to cover furniture recently. It's such a good idea! Nice job on this bench. Neutral furniture is my favorite.

Cute! I'm a wee bit jealous of your electric stapler. I'm still using my super strength to power mine. Looking forward to seeing it all fluffled up with loads of pillows.
