As a southern girl, I have had black eyed peas every New Year's Day since I was one.
Tradition says eating black eyed peas on New Year's Day brings you good luck
and good fortune in the year to come.
"Eat poor on New Year's, and eat fat the rest of the year,"

ReplyDeleteI have to confess, as a northern girl, I have never once eaten black eyed peas. Or collard greens. I have eaten cornbread. We had lettuce wraps. They were good. :)

ReplyDeleteI made Texas Caviar with black eyed peas. Most folks will eat them that way. No cabbage on the menu though.

ReplyDeleteWhich actually got me all excited, because I love a good pickle and was interested to see how they could become a full post.
Then I re-read.
And yes, pictures are nice too, but...well...not the same as pickles.
Can't wait to see all that you have going on! I don't have black eyed peas for New Years, but now that I know their significance, they might be on the menu next year!

My dad is from TN. and when I called him yesterday his first question was whether I had blackeyed peas and ham... being a newbie vegetarian I told him I was making hoppin john with spinach... it was delicious! Now I'm waiting for my good luck! Happy New Year! Theresa xoxo
